GWR: TSSA’s Ballot at Great Western Railway is now OPEN

Paddington rail station with GWR train at platform

Please look out for an industrial action ballot paper coming through your door over the next few days. VOTE YES to strike action and YES to action short of strike in this important dispute over your pay, terms and conditions, and job security. Post your ballot paper back straight away to beat the Christmas rush!

What happens now?
Ballot papers sent first class:  Today, Monday 5th December 2022
Ballot closes:  Thursday 22nd December 2022 at 12 noon

Please return your ballot paper in the pre-paid envelope straight away!

The post is busy with Christmas cards and presents, and there are strikes expected by CWU comrades at Royal Mail, so returning your ballot paper quickly is more important than ever.

Vote YES to keep the pressure on for a deal

Whilst talks have continued and progress has been made, there’s still no offer in writing for us to put to you. Voting YES in a re-ballot will send the strongest message to employers that you are serious, and we won’t walk away until there’s a deal on the table.

Thank you for voting in the ballot in the summer. Because of restrictive anti-trade union laws, those ballots run out six months after your vote. We need to re-run the ballots to keep the mandate for industrial action live and to give us the leverage we need to keep the pressure on employers to get an offer you deserve.

If you haven’t received your ballot paper by Saturday 10th December, please email for a replacement.

Please return your ballot paper straight away and vote YES and YES to BOTH strike action AND action short of a strike.

As a reminder, in this dispute, we are seeking:

  • A pay increase which recognises the rising cost of living
  • A no compulsory redundancy agreement
  • No un-agreed changes to terms and conditions

We’re urging you to VOTE YES to strike action and YES to action short of strike in this ballot. The most important thing is that you vote.

Please look out for your ballot paper and ensure you return it in the pre-paid envelope ASAP and no later than 19 December to be sure it arrives, but please post it whatever happens.
We don’t take this lightly and of course industrial action of any sort is always a last resort.
In Solidarity,

Alan Valentine
