TransPennine Express Industrial Action October 2022

Our Union is once again forced to declare industrial action as we fight to defend jobs, protect terms and conditions and secure a pay rise that helps you cope with the ever-rising cost of living.

Industrial Action consisting of a Strike is called in TransPennine Express for Saturday 1 October and Saturday 8 October, and Action Short of Strike is called for Wednesday 5 October and from Thursday 6 October to Sunday 6 November 2022.

Government intervention is the primary cause of this dispute and Government intervention is required to resolve the situation.

Ms Truss and Ms Trevelyan have the opportunity to get round the table with us and provide for a bright future for our railway and all of us that work to deliver services everyday.

Passenger numbers continue to rise and demand for services is increasing. Cutting back the railway is not the answer and certainly won’t help the UK economy or our climate emergency.

What if I'm working nights on Friday 30th September and Saturday 1st October? In a scenario where your work commences before 00:01 on the 1st or 8th October you would commence and complete that work as normal, however if you are due to commence work between 00:01 till 23:59 on 1st or 8th October we are asking members not to turn up for that work and therefore not to return to work until their next planned work after 23:59 on 1st or 8th October.

We are demanding a guarantee of:

• No compulsory redundancies

• A pay rise which meets the cost-of-living crisis

• No unagreed changes to terms and conditions

 STRIKE ACTION – Saturday 1st October 2022

Members are instructed not to commence work between:

00:01 on Saturday 1st October 2022 to 23:59 on Saturday 1st October 2022

STRIKE ACTION – Saturday 8th October 2022

Members are instructed not to commence work between:

00:01 on Saturday 8th October 2022 to 23:59 on Saturday 8th October 2022

In addition, all TSSA members in TPE are asked to participate in the following action short of strike action:

ACTION SHORT OF STRIKE – Wednesday 5th October 2022

From 00:01 on Wednesday 5th October 2022 to 23:59 on Wednesday 5th October 2022

• Ban on undertaking contingency duties arising from industrial action

• Ban on out of hours work communication

ACTION SHORT OF STRIKE 00:01 Thursday 6th October to 23:59 Sunday 6 November 2022

  • Overtime ban
  • Refusal to work rest days
  • Ban on non-rostered staff working weekends and nights
  • Ban on undertaking contingency duties arising from industrial action
  • No mentoring of colleagues including new starters
  • No training of colleagues including new starters
  • No double desking (no carrying out work of absent colleagues and vacancies)
  • Ban on on-call activities including ban on covering vacant on-call lines
  • Ban on out of hours work communication

An agreement is possible, but for now we must remain strong and united in our determination to ensure that meaningful talks do happen, and they do reach a conclusion that is fair for all.
