Our Network

The TSSA LGBTQ+ network was established in 2017 and aims to:

  • Provide Peer-to-peer support – providing a space for LGBTQ+ members to support each other, express concerns they may have, and spend time around people who understand their experiences. Also providing access to the support.
  • Awareness-raising – promoting a better understanding of LGBTQ+ inclusion and making LGBTQ+ experiences more visible in the wider organisation. Empowering all members to step up as allies and improve the workplace culture for everyone. Educate TSSA, Branches and activists about the issues facing LGBTQ+ members
  • Accountability – scrutinising policies and processes, feeding back concerns, and suggesting how these can be improved. Giving LGBTQ+ members a critical voice to help ensure that LGBTQ+ inclusion is embedded across our organisation and their own workplaces.
  • Drive change - continue to strive for this equality through using our voices, campaigning for change and influencing governing bodies, government, and organisations to make that change for us all.

LGBTQ+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (or sometimes questioning), and others. The "plus" represents other sexual identities including pansexual and Two-Spirit. The first four letters of the acronym have been used since the 1990s, but in recent years there has been an increased awareness of the need to be inclusive of other sexual identities to offer better representation.
