Brexit deal leaves us "wishing for Christmases past", says TSSA

A puzzle with the word Brexit on it

Responding to the UK-EU Brexit deal which was reached on Christmas Eve, TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes says "we will wish for Christmases past".

TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes, said: “It is of course a relief that we have avoided a terrible No Deal situation, but today is a sad day which will leave us poorer as a nation than when we were as a member of the European Union. With such an uncertain future we will wish for Christmases past.

“It’s a scandal that a Brexit deal has only been reached with just one week to go until we leave the EU. Too many businesses have closed and lost trade because of the unacceptable delay and inability to make plans for whatever arrangements lie ahead.

“I welcome the comment from Ursula von der Leyen that the UK and EU will continue to cooperate on transport issues – one of several areas of ‘mutual interest’ she mentioned, which of course included climate change.

“However, Johnson wants to spin this deal. Make no mistake. As from the January 1st, trade barriers with the EU will have been erected and as a result, we will all be poorer in years to come.”
