TSSA urges government to keep focus on Employment Rights Bill

Transport and travel union TSSA has urged the Labour government at Westminster not to lose focus and deliver in full the Employment Rights Bill, and with it a significant uplift in protections for British workers.
The call follows the departure of Angela Rayner, who was steering the Bill and Justin Madders as Employment Minister. The legislation – which includes greater protections against unfair dismissal, a ban on exploitative zero hours contracts and the repeal of anti trade union laws – is currently going through Parliament.
Commenting, TSSA General Secretary, Maryam Eslamdoust said: “This is a moment for the government to keep its focus on the key manifesto commitment of delivering, as promised, the Employment Rights Bill.
“We are very close to seeing the implementation of reforms which will directly benefit millions of workers, bringing greater fairness and security in employment.
“Having endured the long years of Conservative government, which whittled away the rights of working people, we are in touching distance of real change - scrapping zero hours contracts, ending unscrupulous fire and rehire practices, bringing in protections from unfair dismissal from day one, and much more.
“These are the kind of transformative measures the Labour Party was founded for they must be implemented, in full, as soon as possible.”
