Great Western Railway: Clerical Representatives elections

28 January 2019

In 2018 GWR carried out an election for Clerical grade representatives. TSSA wrote to members in April to encourage members to stand for 4 Local representative positions; 1 East, 1 West and 2 HQ based, for a 3-year term.

Unfortunately, not all seats were filled, and we are now in a position where only 1 of the HQ seats is occupied by Rosemary Ede in Payroll who is also a TSSA representative for Clerical grades at Company Council. That leaves 3 local seats vacant. GWR will be running the elections for 1 East, 1 West and 1 HQ seat soon. Thankfully after members identified Jim Waterfall in Reading as someone who would make a good rep he has agreed to stand as a TSSA candidate for the East Seat. We need to find TSSA candidates for the West seat and the vacant HQ seat which needs to be someone outside of the finance function as Rosemary is already in place. For more information on which roles fall within each of the constituencies please click here.

Representing and achieving results for your colleagues and members collectively and on an individual basis can be really rewarding and I would recommend standing to any of you who want to improve the working lives of your colleagues. Only Union members (TSSA or RMT) working within the relevant grades will have the opportunity to stand to be nominated as a rep, nominate a colleague to be a rep or vote if more than 1 candidate stands for one of the constituencies. It is important that your reps have good support so please encourage your Clerical graded colleagues to join TSSA today at so that they have a voice in the process and get to decide who represents them.

If you are interested in standing for one of the positions please contact Alan Valentine, TSSA Organiser on 07775912829 or via email by clicking here

GWR will be sending out more information about their nomination process from the 11thth of February 2019 onwards so more information will follow. Please help us get organised before then by talking to your colleagues about getting involved and finding a representative for your constituency.

Please encourage your colleagues to join us at and print and leave out this circular for colleagues to read so that they are aware of the upcoming elections.
