GWR: TSSA Reps Company Council update 12th June
Dear Member,
Vikki Smith (Stations), Marlon Henry (Revenue Protection) and Tom Bennett (control) attended GWR’s Company Council on the 12th June.
We have summarised the items raised by all unions below;
- Night Time Passenger Services between Reading and London Paddington.
GWR have stated that they are reviewing the passenger loadings on these services, however they will not be transferring to the Elizabeth Line.
- Back payment for 2021 – 2024 Pay Uplifts.
The company are processing payments for former colleagues and payments are expected in the June / July Pay packages. It should be noted that former colleagues need to get in touch with GWR as they won’t reach out.
- Use of Staff Leisure Facilities. (Fines for Dependants Misusing travel facilities)
RMT had some concerns that the company are jumping straight to prosecution rather than having professional conversations with the staff member involved.
The company maintains that the fraudulent uses of travel facilities will be dealt with in the same way as a ticketless customer.
All 4 Unions have requested that better education and visibility is available to spouse’s and dependants so they are aware that travel passes are not to be used for anything other than leisure.
- New Payroll System
GWR is in the final stages with a supplier for a new payroll system, They are looking to convene the TU Working Group to showcase the system in August / September.
- Reps Meeting Dates
The Company has confirmed that Meetings are not being organised purposefully when Reps are on AL / Unavailable. The Company have requested any issues to be reported to the IR ER Managers.
- Salaries on the Vacancy List.
The Company have agreed to add allowances for Flex / Night Allowances to Collectively Bargained grades to all vacancy List Publications.
- Sickness App.
The company has accepted that there are some issues where the manager conducting the return to work / Sickness logging is not the line manager due to shift working. They are working to fix this ASAP.
- Staff Car Parking at Swindon.
GWR have stated that they will be reviewing parking passes at Swindon as per the policy. Reps have highlighted that the issue isn’t staff parking its that a number of town centre Car Parks have been closed and now the Railway Station is being used by people to go shopping / Work in the Town Centre, Also with he Bus Depot outside Milford / Western House this problem is only going to get worse.
GWR Management will take this away and look at what can be done to discourage Non Rail / Non Rail Staff to use other Car Parking. They did suggest something similar to Oxford, but didn’t commit to anything.
Facilities Issues –
TSSA Reps have requested that Staff Side Reps have sight from the planning stage of all facilities changes so that members opinions and thoughts are taken into account at the earliest possible stage.
Items still open with the company for discussion –
OH Facilities at Laira.

We Need You!
Are you interested in being a Staff representative? (There are multiple vacancies’ across Booking offices, Clerical Grades, with new Management graded posts soon to be available once the new collective bargaining agreement is agreed).
Maybe you could fill one of the many Health & Safety Rep, Equality Rep or Union Learning Rep roles that we have across the business. (we have vacancies for all grades within these roles).
Maybe you currently work in a group of managers who doesn’t have collective bargaining and want to find out how to win collective bargaining for your group?
