We've recently been contacted by members concerned about the implications of new terms contained in revised Job Descriptions currently being issued to some managers. The new terms are as follows:
- Maintain a secondary competence role for the purpose of contingency planning
- Ensure relevant training and competencies are gained and maintained in order to resource our continued service during times of disruption
The members contacting us have been concerned the new terms could imply they may be expected to gain new safety critical competencies and assist over and above any current arrangements in place, and as a result be compelled to carry out duties they are not comfortable with. The Company has now clarified its intention is to formalise existing arrangements and provide targeted refresher training where required, and only extend these arrangements where a manager expresses a preference to do so.
Members receiving revised Job Descriptions should check them carefully before signing as they form part of the contract of employment. If there are any concerns members are advised seek clarification in writing and contact a TSSA rep or the TSSA Helpdesk for advice.
