TPE: Revenue Protection Managers Election

It is now 3 years since we won recognition and signed a collective bargaining agreement for Revenue Protection Members in TransPennine Express.

In that time, we have negotiated an introduction of enhanced Rest Day work payments and overtime, we’ve seen a role change from Revenue protection Assistants to Revenue Protection Inspectors, fought and are close to ironing out members having a place of safety arranged on TPE trains should you need it. We have also had Management representatives involved with Pay talks and attending the company level Joint Negotiating Forum (JNF) for the first time in the company’s history! There are always things that we can seek to improve and change for the betterment of our members, and the collective bargaining agreement gives you the vehicle to do this by having elected representatives to serve your interests. I would like to thank the existing representatives for their hard work on your behalf as none of the improvements above could have been made without their efforts.

You can read more on how we got here on our original communication in 2023 TPE: Bargaining on behalf of Revenue Protection Managers! | TSSA

We now need to run a process to elect your representatives as part of the collective bargaining agreement requires us to run elections every 3 years. This starts with a nomination process.

Representative Elections

There are 2 seats on the Revenue Protection Team Company Council (one seat for every 25 staff, or part thereof) , to be eligible for election candidates must:

  • Have minimum of six months service with TPE
  • Be currently working within the Bargaining unit
  • Be a member of TSSA
  • Be supported by not less than six TSSA members from within the bargaining unit

It is important to state that existing representatives are eligible to stand for nomination and election as many times as they wish.

Candidates should use a nomination form, they should complete this and email it to Alan Valentine via by noon on Thursday 25/06/2026

Those nominating candidates simply need to be a TSSA member from within the bargaining unit (i.e. an on Trains RPI or RPO) therefore colleagues can join the union in order to nominate candidates, and the quickest way of joining is via our website.

If we receive more nomination forms than there are rep vacancies, then we will run an election to select the successful candidates.

Health & Safety Representative

We have 1 Health & Safety Representative Position that is now due for election to be eligible for election candidates must:

  • Have at least two years’ service with TPE or at least six months service and have had at least two years’ experience in similar employment to that of the staff whom they are to represent.  Safety representatives may only be appointed with under two years’ experience in accordance with the guidance to the Regulations.
  • Be currently working within the Bargaining unit
  • Be a member of TSSA
  • Be supported by not less than six TSSA members from within the bargaining unit

If you are interested in standing to become a Health and Safety Representative, you would follow a similar process to the above but need to complete a different nomination form. Once completed this can be emailed to Alan Valentine by noon on Thursday 25/06/2026

Nomination forms for both positions can also be found in the document tab of the TransPennine Express section of our website.
