GWR: Industrial Action Short of Strike Notification July 29

TSSA has today announced action short of strike for all our members in Great Western Railways to take place on Saturday 13 August 2022.

All TSSA members are asked to participate in a:

  • Ban on undertaking contingency duties arising from industrial action
  • Ban on out of hours work communication

On Saturday 13 August. The action covers the period from 00:01 to 23:59 on Saturday 13 August. Please liaise with your reps if you have any questions.

During the period from 00:01 to 23:59 on Saturday 13 August TSSA members at GWR can legitimately refuse to carry out these contingency duties such as Driving Trains whilst still carrying out their normal duties, and whilst not feeling under pressure to receive, read or respond to work communications outside of your normal working hours during the times mentioned above.

We are demanding a guarantee of:

  • No compulsory redundancies
  • A pay rise which meets the cost-of-living crisis
  • No unagreed changes to terms and conditions

Despite TSSA officials attending talks with the Rail Delivery Group (the industry body leading on talks for train operators) no offers have been made on the above. In fact, employers and the Department for Transport are now proposing to close ticket offices and change your pensions – on top of all the existing issues!

TSSA continues to fight for better pay and conditions for you at work. Thank you for your response in the recent ballot – this has strengthened our position in talks and there is clear movement, but not enough. That’s why we’re asking you to participate in the above action short of strike on Saturday 13 August.

Discussions are still taking place about when TSSA might announce strike action but if you have any questions or suggestions then please speak to your reps. If you know colleagues who wish to participate in this action but are not yet members, they can easily join TSSA online.

This notification is in addition to the Action Short of strike called for Saturday 30th July and Strike Action called for the 18th and 20th of August.
