TSSA strike action Saturday 8 October

TSSA members in three train operating companies will take strike action on Saturday 8 October with hundreds more taking industrial action short of a strike in the ongoing dispute over pay, conditions and job security.

Strike action will hit Avanti West Coast, c2c and TransPennine Express where TSSA members working in a range of station, ticket office, on board and operational roles will walk out for the full day.

Industrial action short of strike (ASOS) will take place in: SouthEastern Railway, South Western Railway, West Midlands Trains, TransPennine Express, Northern, Great Western Railway, LNER. ASOS specifics vary across the companies and include things like an overtime ban, ban on voluntary contingency cover, ban on undertaking contingency duties arising from industrial action and a ban on out of hours work communication. Full details below.

This latest industrial action follows widespread strike action across Network Rail and train operators last Saturday, 1 October, and strike action by TSSA members in CrossCountry and GWR this week which severely affected rail services.

Manuel Cortes, TSSA General Secretary, said: “Our members remain resolute in the face of this Tory cost-of-living crisis.

“The issues in this dispute are not going away and neither are we. We urge employers and government to bring forward talks to find a resolution to the concerns that rail workers have over pay, conditions and job security.

“Rail workers deserve a pay rise after years of pay freezes and they deserve job security. These are reasonable demands and we will not back down from them.”
